Since 1997, Infratest dimap regularly monitors the current political mood in Germany between elections on behalf of ARD (the leading national public TV station) by measuring the voting intention in Germany. Each week at least 1.000 eligible voters are asked the question: "If there were a General Election next Sunday, which party would you vote for?"

Although this question is always posed alongside others, public interest is normally centred specifically on the response to this particular question.

The findings are representative, since our samples reflect very precisely the entire electorate.

Conclusions about the voting behaviour in a coming election can only be drawn to a limited extent from the results of the opinion poll. Experience has shown that the actual vote decision is more strongly affected by voters’ respective fundamental positions and/or strategic considerations in the final period of the campaign.
